So Many Kids. So Much Water.
Minneapolis is known as the “City of Lakes.” The metro area of the Twin Cities contains more than 950 lakes. We also live in an area filled with children. Plus, there are the rapidly changing demographics of our metropolitan area. Large influxes of immigrant populations continue to arrive.
All children need to learn how to be safe around water. But children of color are especially vulnerable to water-related accidents and drownings. The reasons for this are cultural, economic, and accessibility.
We have those resources throughout the area, including urban areas where thousands of these children live and play.
