YOUTH IN GOVERNMENT SEASON OVERVIEW 2024-2025

The YIG "season" begins in early fall and goes through January. Below outlines the main themes as we move towards the January conference.

RECRUITMENT

Recruitment begins in late August and runs through our registration deadline. During the recruitment phase, leaders are:

  • Connect with 2024 delegates
  • Steering committee members attend the retreat for 24-25 conference updates 
  • Build delegation meeting schedules
  • Presenting to classrooms
  • Tabling in lunchrooms
  • Holding informational meetings (parent & delegate)
  • Identify fundraisers and financial aid needs
  • Identify adult advisors

REGISTRATION

Registration opens at the end of September and will close on October 31st for delegates and advisors. NO registrations will be accepted after registration closes. During the registration, delegations should focus on:

  • Delegation Meetings
  • Continued recruitment
  • Getting delegates registered 
  • Confirming registration & regy credentials
  • All scholarship materials turned in
  • Confirm 1:10 ratio, Adult to Delegate
  • Confirm LAUNCH arrangements
  • ALL delegates/advisors registered by 11/11

MATERIALS PREP

During the materials prep phase, participants should:

  • Attend LAUNCH 
  • Work diligently on conference materials
  • Have complete conference materials uploaded into regy accounts by assigned deadlines
    • 11/15: Legislative bills & National Issues Forum Proposals Due
    • 12/10: Leadership Corps & Courts Materials Due

CONFERENCE PREP

In the six weeks leading up to the conference, delegations will:

  • Preparing for debates, arguments, etc.
  • Hold delegate meetings
  • Hold pre-conference parent/guardian meeting
  • Review packing lists, order delegation shirts, build transportation plans
  • Read through code of conduct and dress code

CONFERENCE

Attend the 71st annual Minnesota Youth in Government Session! 

FOLLOW-UP

Following YIG, be sure to complete:

  • Appointed Official applications for 2026 Youth in Government
  • Turn in Steering Committee members to the CYV State Office
  • Apply for summer programs (Conference on National Affairs and National Judicial Competition)
  • Follow our social media to stay up-to-date with CYV news!
