The YMCA of the North is excited to introduce our Esports leagues! Esports is a competitive video game experience that allows individuals the opportunity to compete as a team in a fun, safe environment. Participants will develop important skills that they can utilize to thrive in all areas of life, including communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills in an individual or team environment.
Beginning September 12, the YMCA will offer Esports Leagues for participants ages 10-18 for Super Smash Bros. Each session will last 8 weeks, with participants meeting 2 times per week. Each day will include a short practice session followed by gameplay. Practice and gameplay will be led by a trained coach who will support participants in a wide variety of areas, including positive competition, team-building activities and the importance of living a healthy lifestyle.
Esports is a virtual option for youth to stay connected, develop new friendships and learn important life skills from the comfort of their own home. All virtual players must supply their own equipment for Esports leagues. Virtual participants will need the following equipment in order to play:
- Game for which they are registering for: Super Smash Bros.
- Gaming console (Nintendo Switch)
- Online gaming capabilities for the console in which they are playing on
Game Options
Super Smash Bros. incorporates our favorite Nintendo characters such as Mario, Donkey Kong, Pikachu and many others in an arcade style battle game. Participants compete in a 1 vs. 1 match, attempting to use their character’s special abilities to knock their opponent out of the designated arena.
