Three years ago in Minnesota, we changed Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples Day. Minnesota is home to almost a dozen tribal nations. This year the holiday is October 11 to honor native cultures and recognize their history, culture and achievements.
One unique commemoration experience to participate in is the Indigenous Peoples Day Sunrise Ceremony on October 11 at Thomas Beach on Bde Maka Ska in Minneapolis hosted by the Metropolitan Urban Indian Directors (MUID). For more information, visit facebook.com/muid.group.
