In May we celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month that recognizes the culture and contributions of our neighbors of Asian and Pacific Islander descent including East, Southeast and South Asia and the Pacific Islands of Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia.
As of 2019, there are about 22.9 million people of Asian or Pacific Islander descent in the United States and according to Pew Research Center, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders make up seven percent of the total U.S. population. Today Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are the fastest growing racial group in the U.S.
Take some time to discover and commemorate the unique journey of all Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and how vital they are to what makes our community and country so great.
