Gain Perspective from Dr. Hedy Lemar Walls
March is Women’s History Month, an annual celebration to honor women’s contributions in American history. President Jimmy Carter when he declared this celebration said:
From the first settlers who came to our shores, from the first American Indian families who befriended them, men and women have worked together to build this nation. Too often the women were unsung and sometimes their contributions went unnoticed. But the achievements, leadership, courage, strength and love of the women who built America was as vital as that of the men whose names we know so well.
Women leaders demonstrate the incredible perseverance and commitment to make real change in our communities. History shows the impact women have to open doors and offer opportunities to those who follow them. This dedication advances equity for ALL women and we hear stories everyday about the women leaders and heroes among us making vital contributions during our current health and economic crisis along with civil unrest happening in our communities. All of us can learn how to support and lift the voices of the women in our lives and capture the spirit of women who built our country.
